Gergely Bíró

Percussionist and teacher, Alexander technique teacher

Gergely graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy. He regularly works with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the MR Symphonic Orchestra, the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and the Amadinda Percussion Group. He is also a founding member of the period instrument Orfeo Chamber Orchestra. Between 2003 and 2008 he teaches at the Franz Liszt Music Academy. He is section leader of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra since 2000.

He became acquainted with the Alexander-technique due to his shoulder ache lasting for many years. After getting rid of his pains within 30 individual lessons, he decides to absolve the Alexander teacher training school of three years in Budapest. He learnt from Anna Magyari Beck, Csilla Szabó, Mónika Szabó and Márta Guba.

He teaches the Alexander-technique in his studio and at the Franz Liszt Music Academy.

“In addition to the easement of daily routines, I experience the Alexander-technique as extraordinarily useful in teaching and performing percussion art and in overcoming stage fright, just as in doing sports (swimming, tennis, horse-riding and parachuting)."

"As teacher, active musician and father it is important to me to identify my habits and to realize that I always have a choice for I believe that these lead us to freedom of thought, body and communication, as well as to freedom of art.”
